Location of Wanduramba Regional Secretariat

within 18 Km to Galle city, Wanduramba Divisional Secretariat is located. The division also has 22 village officer domains.

2% of the total land in Galle District belongs to Wanduramba Divisional Secretariat. It is one of the smallest divisional secretariats in terms of size compaed to other divisional secretariats.

In the past, paddy farming has been the main livelihood fo this division, which has a semi-urban and rural life. The name Wanduramba is due to the abundance of monkeys in and area rich in bananas. But nowadays, tea cultivation can be called as the main means of livelihood. Apart from this, rubber, coconut, cinnamon and minor export crops and horticulture can be seen.

Also, the main water source of this division is the canal that flows fro, the boundary of the division and sometimes through the middle of the division. Also, Solahena Reserve and Kirindalahena Lake located in the middle of the division enhance the beauty of the division.

Among the hsistorical and archeological places in Wanduramba Divisional Secretariat, the mabotuwana Purana Wilgamu Rajamaha Vihara belonging to the Dambadeni period and the Galapata Vihara occupy important places in connection with it.

For administrative convenience, this division has been separated from Baddegama division and divided into 22 village officer domains. The 22 village officer domains have also been filed in parts according to the requirements of various institutions.

History of Wanduramba Divisional Secretariat

- The present Divisional Secretariat has been established as an office of the Divisional Assistant Secretary in 2017.05.08 at Kottawa Road, Wanduramba. (Controlled by Divisiona Secretariat Office Baddegama from 2017.05.08 to 2021.02.26)
- In the year 2021.03.01 Divisional Secretariat’s Office was shifted to the present location of the Divisional Secretariat at Baddegama Road, Pahala Lelwala, Wanduramba.
